How to ensure your home is heat efficient

During the colder months you can benefits from a well insulated home What are the best ways to ensure your property keeps as much heat in as possible.

Loft insulation

Adding measures to keep heat in your home is a great idea, saving your money in the long-term and helping to keep your property efficient. Hot air rises, therefore installing at least nearly 300mm of thermal-wool as a hat to keep your home warm is a good idea. As much as 25% is lost via your roof. You can also use PIR boards between the rafters, which are even more efficient, but will take longer and cost more. Make sure you follow guidelines to avoid condensation issues. The correct use of vapour barriers and the correct levels of ventilation in your roof.

Under floor insulation

If your home has a cavity wall, a gap between the inner walls and the outer brick wall, this cavity can be filled with cavity wall insulation but be mindful of not bridging the void with a potentially cold transferring material. Wool or beads are common methods to achieve improved efficiency.

External insulation, where a property can either have insulation directly applied to the skin of the brickwork or have a lattice of batten and PIR fixed over the structure allowing for healthy ventilation.
