What do you need to consider when choosing bird food during Winter months?At this time of year during December, January, and February; temperatures are at an annual low.
High energy food are best to help the native birds in your garden flourish during these testing months. Fats, proteins, and carbohydrates are all essential but the high fats are more necessary in Winter.
Animal fat is best, if you can keep the oily residue after you cook, unsalted bacon, beef, chicken, or lamb. This whilst still warm can be mixed with seeds suitable for native birds.
Oats, grains, sunflower seeds, nyjer seeds. Whilst peanuts can be beneficial they may chock young birds. If suitable seeds and grains are mixed with liquid fats and left to cool, the sold fatty seed mix and be left out for birds to enjoy.
